Wine collectors are a funny bunch, happy to pay often very large sums of money for a particularly rare of unusual bottle of wine. For the serious collectors, the wine is never intended to be drunk, but will spend its life in a carefully temperature controlled storage area.
Personally, I’m a drinker, and while I’ve been known to lash out on a bottle, it is because I am after the pleasure of drinking it, rather than owning it.
Of course, we should not discount the investment possibilities of wine. If a wine is known to be of top quality, or has an interesting story, and only a limited number are made, then of course you could expect the price to increase over time.
